5 Things to Do in Puerto Vallarta
I'm taking a break from speech writing to send this issue out. I just got invited to speak at TravelCon at the end of April and I'm excited! TravelCon is a conference where travel industry professionals meet and network (e.g. Frommer's, Condé Nast Traveler, etc). I am confident that I'll be flowing with fresh ideas after the event on how to provide better content for you.
Go zip-lining
Many have done zip-lining before, but zip-lining in PVR is on a different level because you're hundreds of feet high in the jungle. In addition, there are 11 zip-lines positioned one after another. If you want more adventure, you can bundle zip-lining with an ATV tour where you'll cross the longest suspension bridge in the world. Of course, I also did the ATV tour, and I almost killed myself. However, I'm lucky that I got it all on video, so follow me on Instagram because I will eventually post it. Link
Go on the Rhythms of the Night Cruise & Dinner Show
A circus-themed event on a secluded island. Cirque Du Soleil officially sponsors the event, so the performers are top tier. Specifically, I was impressed with the fire dancers and the acrobats. This event is a must-see, so get reservations ahead of time. The ticket includes dinner. There's an affordable drink package too.
Arrive early to account for traffic because the boat will leave you. Link
Go scuba diving
Puerto Vallarta is great for scuba divers of all levels. There are opportunities to take a course beforehand for those who aren't certified. For a low price, I had a private tour and was able to dive with two tanks. Please make sure you don't party too hard the night before or have a heavy breakfast before diving. Of course, I'm not speaking from experience. Link
Walk the Malecón
Not to be confused with the Cuban Malecón, the Malecón in PVR is the city's heart. Take a stroll there to see restaurants, bars, and people-watch. The vibe is different during the day/night so visit during both times.
Try the Mexican food
The Mexican food in PVR is on a different level. There are some nice spots in PVR, but the street food tasted better. Especially for towns like PVR, get away from the touristy area and follow the locals because they know where the good spots are. I went to the Instagram-worthy restaurants, but I want to stress how good the street food is. For example, the best tacos I had were served on a plate wrapped in plastic. I recommend going to El Carboncito. For those that to visit a famous spot, go to Pancho's Takos.
General Note about Puerto Vallarta
⁃ Ubers can run later than usual so plan accordingly. Give yourself an extra 20-minute buffer.
What did you like to do in Puerto Vallarta?
I’m tired of making Cosmos so here’s a remix: The Cosmojito
- 2 ounces orange vodka
- 1/2 ounce Cointreau
- 3/4 ounce lime juice
- 7-8 leaves fresh mint
- 1/2 ounce cranberry syrup (see note below)
- 2 ounces cranberry juice
- sparkling water
Combine all ingredients in a spritz glass over ice and stir. Garnish with orange wheels and mint sprigs.
NOTE - Cranberry Syrup:
500 milliliters cranberry juice
500 grams white sugar
Combine all ingredients in a pot and heat on high for approximately 10 minutes, until the sugar has dissolved and completely assimilated.
If a trip doesn't go as planned, at least you have a good story. Ask me about Baltimore and the cat pee.
I'm excited to speak at TravelCon! Follow me on Instagram and Facebook.
