Post Election Escape Plan

Election season...

I'm exhausted by the constant house visits, phone calls, and other forms of what I can only describe as harassment.

It's like a horror movie—these volunteers are relentless. No matter how hard I try to escape, they're always there.

But I understand where they're coming from, so I have a lot of respect for them because…

American politics is a circus.

Let me paint a picture of how absurd American politics has become.

Recently, I was listening to a podcast featuring Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, and a thought crossed my mind:

"I'd vote for him as president."

My simple reason for thinking he'd be a good president: he seems nice and might bring people together.

Then I started to get concerned. I had only seen this guy beat people up on TV. I didn't know what he thought about running the country, but I was still thinking about this former pro wrestler as someone who could be president.

Even more alarming? I wasn't alone in this thinking.

BOTH major parties have already reached out to him.

Oh, how far we have fallen.

Which brings me to my next point.

The presidential election is tomorrow, and I don't want to delve further into politics, but there's one thing both sides can agree on:

We want to leave the country if our candidate doesn't win.

So, I've got you covered. Here are some places you can escape to.

First up is Canada. It's close, they speak the same language, and Canadians are friendly. But here's the problem: everyone's going to rush into Canada, so I don't recommend it. Plus, Canada is still too close to the US. You want some space from the madness.

For the outdoorsy types, there's Iceland. It's cold, but nobody's going to find you out there. Actually, no one's going to be looking for you. And most importantly, they have KFC. IFYKYK (If You Know You Know)

You could try fleeing to the Scandinavian region. Countries like Norway and Sweden have relatively low crime rates and high quality of living, but the problem is Americans like chaos, so we can't live there long-term. During my time there, everything was just too orderly. It didn't feel right in my bones.

Then there's Switzerland. Switzerland is like that sibling who sits back and watches the others fight it out. While other countries are fighting, they're collecting the money. They remained neutral during both World Wars, so you should be safe if anything else goes down in the future.

Let's not forget about Portugal. The weather is nice, and it's friendly towards expats. If you're on the East Coast, you can get some cheap flights. Personally, Portugal is a top choice for me. I enjoyed this country a lot.

Cocktail of the Week

The Vieux Carré cocktail originated in New Orleans, Louisiana, in the 1930s, named after the French term for the "French Quarter," the city's historic district. This cocktail reflects the city's rich cultural blend, combining elements of French, Spanish, and American traditions, making it a classic representation of New Orleans' vibrant cocktail scene.

Ingredients:

• 3/4 oz rye whiskey
• 3/4 oz cognac
• 3/4 oz sweet vermouth
• 1/4 oz Benedictine
• 2 dashes Peychaud's bitters
• 2 dashes Angostura bitters
• Lemon twist (for garnish)

Instructions:

1. Fill a mixing glass with ice.
2. Add the rye whiskey, cognac, sweet vermouth, Benedictine, Peychaud's bitters, and Angostura bitters.
3. Stir well until chilled.
4. Strain the mixture into a chilled Old Fashioned glass filled with ice.
5. Garnish with a lemon twist.

• Safety Wing: I use Safety Wing as my travel insurance because the plans are flexible. You can easily insure a 1-week trip for like $11 dollars which is less than the cost of a cocktail at the bar.

Travel Gear

• Compression socks: Sitting for extended periods of time is not good for the body, so keep yourself healthy enough to go on more trips. Link
• Apple AirTags: Consider getting Apple AirTags for the peace of mind of always knowing where your luggage is. Link
• Smart Phone holder: It's a foldable sheet that can be used as a stand for your iPhone or iPad.Link
• Packing cubes: Having a separate container works wonders for keeping clothes wrinkle-free. It also makes packing/unpacking much easier.Link
• Donut Power Strip: Power outlets are always in demand, but sometimes they're in weird spots. I use this bagel because it's lightweight, and I don't have to think about it. Link
• Travel Case Organizer: Cable organizers can be a pain, but this is what I use to keep my cables organized. Link
• Backup batteries: I like these backup batteries because they have three important components for me: 1. They have enough power to recharge my phone multiple times at once, 2. Are small enough to put in my pocket, and 3. Are sturdy enough to survive a fall. Link
• Yoga Mat: I use this thin mat to get my stretching in even when I'm traveling. Link
• Jump Rope: It's so easy to bring a jump rope with you for exercise because it weighs almost nothing and takes up no space. Link
