The Fourth of July is this Friday, and while most people celebrate with friends and family BBQs, I thought it would be interesting to explore some travel destinations during America's birthday. I've found some amazing spots where you can catch the most spectacular celebrations across the USA.
Here are my top five picks for an unforgettable Independence Day experience:
Boston, Massachusetts This historic gem truly knows how to throw a patriotic party, with celebrations spanning multiple days. You can soak in the vibrant atmosphere at Harborfest, complete with a Chowderfest and military band performances. The highlight is the free
outdoor concert by the Boston Pops and an impressive fireworks show over the Charles River.
New York City, New York You're in for an amazing show in NYC, where Macy's puts on this huge fireworks display over both the Hudson and East Rivers. While there isn't a traditional parade in NYC, you can always escape to Long Island or Fire Island for beach fun and more fireworks.
Washington, D.C. What better place to celebrate Independence Day than in the nation's capital? You can kick off your day by touring national monuments and museums for free, soaking in all that history before the main event. The city hosts a notable National Independence Day Parade on Constitution Avenue, featuring bands, floats, and celebrities. And of course, the grand finale is the impressive fireworks show over the National
Mall.
Nashville, Tennessee If you love your celebrations with a side of good music, Nashville is calling your name for the Fourth of July! The "Let Freedom Sing! Music City July 4th" event brings a free concert featuring multiplatinum country singers and others. This lively city hosts one of the largest fireworks displays in the country, perfectly synchronized to a live performance by the Nashville
Symphony.
Mount Rushmore, South Dakota For a truly unique and historical Fourth of July, consider Mount Rushmore, which offers a different kind of celebration. You can meet reenactors portraying the four presidents on July 3rd and 4th, and even ask them questions during a press conference! While it offers a welcome alternative to loud fireworks, there may be a massive fireworks display here in 2026, so be
sure to check closer to your visit for updated event details.
Bonus:
Philadelphia, PA I have to represent Philly! We seriously take this holiday to heart because it's where our forefathers signed the Declaration of Independence, and you can feel that history everywhere from the Liberty Bell to Independence Hall. Our
celebrations aren't just for one day; they often start mid-June with free museum days, outdoor films, and live performances, leading up to the main event. On July 4th, enjoy the "Salute To Independence Day Parade", a concert on Benjamin Franklin Parkway, and fireworks over the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
I hope everyone has a safe and fun holiday during the Fourth of July. Please don't go overboard with the
fireworks.
